Viking Nile River Cruise Reviews 2024 UPDATED: Ratings of Viking Cruises to Nile River

We adore the little spaces Viking has created for guests to escape, especially the small window-side seating area in the Deck 3 Atrium. Meet locals in a Nubian village, explore the Temples of Philae and discover how papyrus is made. See the Valley of the Kings, Queen Nefertari’s tomb and Queen Hatshepsut’s mortuary temple.
What are the Viking River Cruise Ships in Egypt?
Stateroom photos are for sample purposes only -- actual design and layout may vary. Finally, the journey concludes with a flight back to Cairo for a final night in the ancient city. The cruise ship fuel surcharge is additional revenue to Viking Cruises, as are any additional charges relating to currency fluctuation other than for fully paid cruise fares and full fares.
Viking Osiris Review
These cabins are among the best-appointed on the Nile, with comfortable living areas and bedrooms, and decor that feels more like a beautiful home than a hotel or cruise ships. Look closely, and you’ll also notice many Norse mythology references throughout the art, fabric and design choices. Meals include a range of international meals as well as a selection of “always-available” favorites. One special evening on each cruise is dedicated to an Egyptian feast served family style. Overall, we were impressed with the quality, though the selection at times felt a little limited. Those seeking a more traditional ship -- a romanticized journey down the Nile like you might read about in an Agatha Christie novel -- might find Viking Osiris a bit too modern, too slick. For everyone else, though, Viking Osiris offers guests an opportunity to dive into Egypt's history and culture from a beautifully appointed ship. On Viking Aton, another unique perk is the long, infinity-edge plunge pool that stretches along the aft of the ship with cushioned lounge chairs positioned perfectly for aft-facing views.
Viking Announces Additional Sailings In Egypt
Directly above it is Aquavit Terrace, a Viking staple that features an indoor/outdoor space offering a more casual approach to dining. Just off Aquavit Terrace is a small area for sunning and the ship's small infinity-style pool. The Viking Osiris deck plan offers five passenger levels, arranged around a beautiful midsection filled with floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights that span three full decks. The ship is exceptionally appointed, with large cabins, nooks aplenty for escaping and viewing areas for watching life unfold on the Nile.
When it comes to its cruise ships, Viking has a philosophy of continuity. The company wants you to know you're on a Viking ship, whether it's on Europe's rivers, an expedition journey or its ocean ships. All of Viking's ships look similar on the inside, with modern, Scandinavian design. But more than that, it's the line's approach to service (friendly yet professional), shore excursions (insightful and information packed) or food (simple and delicious, with a nod to the line's Norwegian heritage and the place you're sailing).
Pre: British Collections of Ancient Egypt
The Viking ships in Egypt showcase the company's signature Nordic design inspirations with minimalist, colorful design as well as the square-like bows that allow it to travel more efficiently with more space for passengers. Viking ships in Egypt feature the same livery on the façade like others in the fleet with the name prominently listed. Itinerary and shore excursions are subject to change and may vary by departure.

Women in Egypt often wear head scarves or abayas, and dress overall is modest. While visiting women can -- and do -- wear shorts or shorter dresses, you might feel out of place by doing so. Consider garments with longer sleeves that can be rolled up, or breezy layers and scarves to cover shoulders and lower necklines, especially for visits to religious sites. The ship shines when it comes to Egyptian dishes, and those who want to explore new dishes will be rewarded with flavorful options that you will remember for ages.
This is similar to what is available on Viking Osiris and the next two river ships under construction. Viking's Nile ships are smaller than the line’s “Longships,” with only 41 cabins for 82 guests (less than half the size of Longships). But, the public areas seem rather spacious thanks to the traditional lounge area plus numerous other seating options. While the main lounge is laid out in a familiar fashion to other ships, it has Egyptian-themed artwork and photography. You’ll also notice that the entrance to al fresco desks is on the side and closer to the center of the ship (due to its shorter length) rather than at the back of the lounge.
Follow our social media and blog for the latest cruise and travel news, including our best vacation deals. Viking generally has a demographic of 55-plus, and on Osiris for the Nile River and Egypt, which is a bit of a bucket-list trip, the age is slightly older. Expect a chatty cruise with people who want to share their experiences at the end of the day. Many passengers will have sailed with Viking before and are fans of the cruise line. Our purpose-built ships offer a wide variety of staterooms for your selection. From Veranda Staterooms to the abundance of extra perks and amenities in our spacious Explorer Suites, there is no finer way to travel. And whichever stateroom you choose, you will find it beautifully designed in the understated elegance for which Viking is known. Discover the civilization that rose along its banks, starting with Cairo, the Pyramids and the Sphinx. One of history’s greatest civilizations emerged along the banks of the Nile.
There truly are no cabins to avoid on Viking Osiris, as there is a nice range for everyone. If you're an exceptionally light sleeper, avoid cabins on Deck 3 (where all the suites are located), as they sit right below The Lounge, so some footsteps or furniture movement noise is inevitable, depending on the time of day. On our cruise, we ran a "white noise" app on our phone that effectively drowned out any external noise. The ship's main dining room, The Restaurant, is located on Deck 3, offering three meals a day.
Like other Viking cruises, there is always breakfast available before tours, with lighter options for late risers. Lunch and dinner times depend on the tour times, and local entertainers may sometimes board to add some fun to the experience. A Nile River cruise with Viking begins with three nights in Cairo at a luxury hotel.
